2018… What a time to sponsor Women’s sport!

2018 has been one of the best years for Women in sport, with many different events and competitions attracting a wide range of spectators. This includes the likes of the SSE FA Cup final between the two London rivals, Arsenal versus Chelsea, as well as, the Hockey World Cup in London.

The FA Cup final resulted in a record crowd of 45,423 in Wembley Stadium, 10,000 more fans than attended the final in 2017. The Women’s Hockey World Cup had sold an astounding 80,000 tickets on 8th March 2018.

The growth of Women’s sport will continue in 2019 with many more opportunities for the public to spectate and spread the word. In 2019, there will be the Netball World Cup in Liverpool in July and the Women’s Football World Cup in France, which had an allocation of 5,000 tickets for the qualification game between Wales and England on 31st August, with tickets sold out in just 24 hours.

Women’s sport has many opportunities for sponsorship within the industry, for example in the recent Hockey World Cup, the likes of Vitality, Merchant Gourmet, Jaffa oranges and Toshiba have all become sponsors alongside long-term partner Investec.

The number of Women’s sport sponsorship deals increased by 47% between 2013 and 2017, with the average deal size rising by 38% during this period, according to Nielsen. O2 have the sponsorship of England Rugby’s Red Roses, with Tyrells supporting the Premier 15s Women’s rugby premiership and they both have blazed their trial in Women’s Sport.

Many brands and CEO’s are beginning to encourage brands and companies to step out of their comfort zone and go out of the mainstream values to sponsor a Women’s sport, team or event, as this as an industry is booming and has a lot to offer to everyone. Vitality health and life insurance is encouraging others to reach out to grassroots and to make the nation healthier, by sponsoring, donating and/or being involved in sport.

SNAP Sponsorship is working with women grassroots rugby teams to continue the growth of Women’s sport.
