Haywards Heath RFC joined by special guests for City Lunch Fundraiser

Friday 6th October saw Brasserie Blanc on Southbank play hosts to Haywards Heath RFC for their first City Lunch Fundraising Event.

The overall objective was to create a fantastic event for club members whilst raising funds required for different club projects including a new roof on the clubhouse which needs urgent attention.

It was great to see so many members of the club including past and present as well as important local sponsors Mansell McTaggart, Pets Corner, Besana, Kalimex, Dig Gardens, Bespoke Law, Woodhouse Create and Swan Print.

The auction was led by professional auctioneer Mark Head who expertly worked the room to encourage bidding on a number of outstanding sporting memorabilia and experiences, including a Harlequins package, a week stay in a ski chalet and an England shirt signed by Jonny Wilkinson.

Throughout the afternoon, a silent auction also took place which included more fantastic lots, with something for everyone.

Guests on the day were ex-players, The Chisholm Brothers (Ross, James and Ali Chisholm). Ali took the lead and gave a unique insight into the brothers success, their rugby careers and their family relationship.

It was great to hear the club memories from the boys time as minis, as well as, James’ experience with the England Saxons on tour in South Africa and Ross’ progressing rugby coaching career.

Later on we were joined by Chris Jones, BBC Rugby Correspondent, who was on hand to interview Schalk Brits. The affable Springbok shared some of his memories playing youth rugby as well as thoughts on English rugby and being acknowledged as the Premiership’s most successful overseas player.

The event was a huge success for the club and raised a substantial sum, as well as, being a great day out for many club members, colleagues and friends.
