RFU move to make rugby England’s most dominant sport with £443m investment!

The new four-year strategic plan released last week by Chief Executive Steve Brown will see the investment in rugby increase by £113 million since the last plan released in 2012. But why is this happening?

The RFU, rugby’s governing body, has set out a clear goal that they want to win the men’s World Cup in Japan in 2019, as well as, the women’s two years later in 2021. Winning the Six Nations titles and success at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo are also key objectives for the next four years.

Initiatives are also in place to increase the number of RFU- owned artificial pitches from 6 – 60 by 2019!

The goals and success are very ambitious and are all part of the movement to become “England’s strongest sport” with regard to governance, regulation and success.

This is centered around protecting the game from the grassroots clubs up to International teams and will be done through increasing engagement using new technology schemes, improving participation and making sure players are kept in the game through the participation years.

“Our definition of strongest isn’t necessarily biggest, that may be some way off for us obviously, but you don’t have to be big to be strong right?” Brown said.

“So that means for us setting a standard and being as good as we can be – and the best around the country – in the way the game is governed and run and the organisation that is governed and run, and setting some standard there that perhaps are significant and a step change for us and certainly for other organisations as well”

With such big plans in place for England rugby, the sport appears to be in a great position from which to build from.

SNAP are dedicated to reinforcing this plan to strengthen the financial stability of grassroots rugby to help build a healthy future.

Our online portal has been developed in association with rugby clubs and allows clubs to add sponsorship opportunities (e.g. pitch side banner, clubhouse or shirt) to an online profile page, in order to be searched by our network of sponsors and additionally share these with their network.

SNAP can also help grass roots rugby clubs with new sponsorship ideas. We have an extensive knowledge library full of guides and experience we have gained through working with local rugby clubs. Once a club’s online profile goes live they will also receive website packs every month which are full of sponsorship and website tips and case studies.

The website also allows rugby clubs to manage existing sponsors in a structured management system, tracking all activity, finances and renewals.

If your club would like to start building for the future then get in contact and see how we can help you!
