Team Guildford Business Club Event with James Horwill

Team Guildford Business Club has been very fortunate over the years, welcoming an incredible range of internationally renowned sporting stars. In September, we welcomed another southern-hemisphere accent to our Fifth Team Guildford Business Club event of 2016, this time round it was an Australian one as the 2m tall, Australian International Lock, James Horwill was welcomed up to podium supported by the ever impressive compere, Dave Ward.
Guests arrived at the home of Guildford Rugby alongside event sponsors, DMH Stallard who were treated to a sneak preview into how businesses can benefit from the services DMH Stallard provide. Richard Middlehurst (see below image) and his team hosted two tables on the day, a mixture of clients and potential clients – some of the perks for sponsoring such an event!
The ever impressive Chef Whites produced a choice of two curries, complimented by onion bhajis, poppadoms and naan bread – thanks to them for a delicious lunch! For those of you who had seconds, you know who you are!
As we invited James to the podium, guests were treated to a short highlight reel of James’ illustrious career from his time playing for the Queensland Reds (Australia) and his time as a 61 cap Australian International (yet to retire from International rugby just currently not picked as Dave Ward kindly pointed out and got one up on his team-mate in the same vein!).
Dave Ward, captured the audience once again in fine fashion as he unpicked James’ life as a rugby player, discussing the Reds famous Super Rugby win (Southern Hemisphere and Argentinian Rugby Tournament). Of course, in true English fashion, we wouldn’t allow an Aussie to leave the room without being drubbed about losing to England, 3-0 in the earlier test series (a personal highlight on the day!). James also discussed life in business, mentioning that some of the core values that he felt held true to him both in sport and business – some valuable advice for us all to take into everyday life in the business world!
