The Perfect Partnership – Why Business and Rugby?

In business you can’t be successful on your own, we all know that. That’s the reason why we attend networking events and meetings, to develop new contacts, clients, suppliers and partners. Building a bank of contacts that you can rely on is critical for success and that is something that is echoed in Rugby.
Rugby is a sport where 15 players have to put their body on their line for each other. You have to be part of a system and do your job, whilst relying on your teammates to do theirs, as well as, bring skills that you may not posses to achieve the ultimate goal of success!
Yes sure these similarities are obvious, but why is Business and Rugby so great?…
1 – Rugby is one of the most engaged sports in terms of club member’s involvement and the volunteers helping above and beyond with the general running of the club.
Members really care about their own club and where their children play the game. They are open to engaging with the likes of sponsors and supporting businesses (creating win/win partnerships) for the good of the club and so they and their children can continue to grow and succeed with the club.
2 – Rugby clubs can offer business connections like no other. Whether it’s standing on a pitch side watching the minis play, standing in the bar having a pint or going to a committee meeting with other volunteers. Little did you know that the chap/lady to your right is the MD of a company that your sales director has been trying for months to target and talk to!
3 – The ethos that runs through the game of Rugby runs through the business people that play and support the game. And that’s why we believe that using Rugby as a business development tool is fantastic to meet the right people and do good business.
4 – Investing your marketing budget in something that is going to develop the local community, youth sport and socialising with other rugby people is fulfilling for a business. You can physically see the development of your money, whether it’s a new club house or just the bibs, balls and cones, they all show the reward of such investments.
Business people naturally want a return from any marketing investment and rugby clubs can be the place where you see that return from strategic engagement with the members and contacts that you meet!
